It has been three years since the tragic events that took place in Sri Lanka. Leading up to the middle of May 2009, thousands of people lost their lives. Many Tamil Canadians, including members of National Capital Region Tamil Association (NCRTA) and Ottawa Tamil Seniors Association (OTSA) lost family members during the violent events.

NCRTA and OTSA remember the victims who lost their lives and those who were maimed. We declare a week of remembrance between May 11 and May18 every year to mark this tragic part of our history.

During the week we will organize a remembrance event. This year, NCRTA and OTSA are holding the remembrance event on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Walter Baker Centre in Barrhaven. We will be conducting a multi faith prayer to remember the victims. We will also fast before the event to recognize the suffering the people endured and break the fast at the end of the event by serving water or juice. NCRTA and OTSA request your presence at this event to join us in remembering the tragedy.

We are also accepting cash donations to benefit the Shepherds of Good Hope. The collection will be donated in the memory of the people who suffrered without food or shelter and those who lost their lives during the tragedy.
