Ottawa-Carleton Tamil School welcomes its students and their parents for the school year 2006/2007. The Tamil School will start on the Saturday, September 9, 2006 between 9:30 AM with the registration and classes at the Green Bank Middle School, 168 Greenbank Rd. The Tamil School profile

The Tamil people of the Ottawa region hail from a number of different countries such as: Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius, and South Africa. In 1989 the Canada Tamil Sangam (Tamil Association) and the Tamil community as a whole felt the need to teach children the Tamil Language. By learning the Tamil Language children will develop important communications as well as an appreciation for the Tamil culture. With this objective the Ottawa-Carleton Tamil School was started in 1989 under the Ministry of Education 's Heritage Language Program, now it is known as International Language Program/Ottawa Carleton District School Board The school had 18 students in its inaugural year. In the beginning classes were held at Bell High School, and all of the instructors were volunteers. After 17 years the Tamil school is doing extremely well and has grown to 90 plus students and 6 instructors. Now, Tamil elementary level classes are held at 168 Greenbank Road, Greenbank Junior School on Saturday mornings from 9:30am to Noon. Tamil Credit Course

In the year 1999, Tamil credit course for secondary school students and adults, was started and running successfully. The Tamil Credit Course are held at Bayshore Public School. 145 Woodridge cres. Ottawa, on Tuesday evenings. from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. Contact: Suseela Murthy 726-9291.
